Agent Green, prin Dr. Theodor Cojoianu, singura organizație din România selectată în cadrul Platformei Comisiei Europene pentru Finanțare Durabilă
București/Bruxelles, 26 octombrie 2020 – Asociația Agent Green, un ONG din România dedicat conservării biodiversității și managementului responsabil al resurselor naturale, prin Dr. Theodor Cojoianu, Lector in cadrul Queen’s University Belfast, a fost selectată ca Membru al Platformei pentru Finanțare Sustenabilă (Platform on Sustainable Finance) în cadrul Comisiei Europene, pentru a contribui cu expertiza sa în managementul mediului si a investitiilor responsabile.
Platforma pentru Finanțare Sustenabilă va consulta Comisia Europeană în privința dezvoltării unor criterii tehnice pentru Taxonomia Verde (EU Green Taxonomy), care este un nou sistem de clasificare pentru activitățile economice sustenabile, precum si pe tema politicii în domeniul finanțării sustenabile și monitorizarea investițiilor sustenabile la nivel European.[1]
Valdis Dombrovskis, Vicepreședintele Executiv al Comisiei Europene pentru o Economie în Serviciul Cetățenilor, a declarat: „Această Platformă privind finanțarea sustenabilă va oferi idei valoroase și va contribui la activitatea noastră de stimulare a finanțării verzi și de dezvoltare a taxonomiei, jucând un rol crucial în canalizarea investițiilor către activități economice verzi. A fost încurajator să constatăm că o gamă atât de largă de experți și de părți interesate manifestă un interes atât de mare în a se alătura platformei. Ne-am asigurat că selectăm într-un mod foarte echilibrat persoane dintr-o gamă variată de sectoare, inclusiv din societatea civilă, industrie și mediul academic, și cu competențe diferite. Aștept cu interes să colaborez îndeaproape cu platforma în lunile următoare.”[2]
Agent Green, singura organizație din România selectată pentru Platformă, a fost aleasă dintre mai bine de 500 de aplicanți. În total, Comisia Europeană a selectat 50 de membri pe baza expertizei lor in domeniul dezvoltarii durabile si ai investitiilor responsabile între care și Dr. Cojoianu din România, alături de alte companii/grupuri sau organizații/societăți europene, precum Airbus, Allianz Group sau E.ON SE.[3]
În privinta acestei strategice selecții a Agent Green, Gabriel Paun, Președintele Agent Green a declarat: “Urmarirea atentă a investițiilor în companiile sustenabile precum și în cele nesustenabile este vitală pentru a îndrăzni să sperăm la un viitor normal. Prin urmare, această platformă este crucială pentru a ne asigura că pe viitor doar afacerile cu adevărat verzi vor fi susținute. Suntem recunoscători că facem parte din această inițiativă pentru realizarea de noi politici de sustenabilitate și suntem determinați să aducem un suflu de verde proaspăt pe durata întregului proces. “
Dr. Theodor Cojoianu, Membru al Platformei pentru Finanțare Sustenabilă (reprezentantul Agent Green), Lector în Finanțe în cadrul Queen’s University Belfast a declarat: “Sunt onorat să fiu numit împreună cu Agent Green ca Membru al Platformei pentru Finanțare Sustenabilă. Activitatea platformei este crucială pentru atingerea obiectivelor Pactului Verde al UE, inclusiv realizarea neutralității climatice până în 2050 și asigurarea protecției și restaurării biodiversității. În acest sens, sunt încântat să contribui cu expertiza mea în domeniul investițiilor durabile si a datelor științifice pentru a ghida Comisia Europeană. Despre Agent Green
Agent Green este o organizație non-guvernamentală, non-profit (ONG) dedicată protecției mediului, înființată în 2009 în România în scopul conservării biodiversității. Agent Green își concentrează activitatea pe rezolvarea problemelor complexe de mediu care afectează biodiversitatea. Dr. Theodor Cojoianu este Lector in cadrul Queen’s University Belfast. Munca de cercetare a lui Theodor, este situată la intersectia dintre dezvoltarea durabila, data science și finanțe, în scopul de a gasi soluții știintifice la probemele economice globale, sociale si de mediu. Theodor este de asemenea Academic-in-Residence in Sustainable Nation Ireland, servește ca membru al consiliului director al EU Energy Efficiency Mortgages Initiative, este membru al Green Finance Ireland, si membru al comitetului executive al Global Network on Financial Geography (Fingeo).
Theodor a primit doctoratul in Geografie Economică și Mediu de la Universitatea Oxford, masteratul in Carbon Finance (cu distinctie) si master Inginerie Electrica si Management, ambele de la Universitatea din Edinburgh. Theodor a prezentat rezultatele studiilor sale pentru Allianz Global Investors, Banking and Payments Federation Ireland, BNP Paribas, Brunel Pension Partnership, Environmental Agency Pension Fund, the Environment Agency Austria (Umweltbundesamt), Investment Innovation Benchmark, Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, International Finance Corporation / World Bank, National Australia Bank, the Central Bank Network for Greening the Financial System și alte instituții financiare globale.
Studiile lui Theodor în domeniu au fost publicate de cele mai prestigioase jurnale academice, precum Business Strategy and the Environment, Environmental and Resource Economics, Journal of Economic Geography, Small Business Economics și Research Policy.

Dr. Theodor Cojoianu of Agent Green is appointed to EU Commission’s Platform on Sustainable Finance
Bucharest, 26th of October 2020 – Agent Green, a Romanian based NGO dedicated to thriving biodiversity and responsible management of natural resources through Dr. Theodor Cojoianu, Academic-in-Residence within Agent Green & Assistant Professor of Finance at Queen’s University Belfast, has been appointed as Members of the Platform on Sustainable Finance at the European Commission, in recognition for its world class expertise related to environmental management and sustainable finance.
The Platform on Sustainable Finance will advise the Commission on the development of robust and science-based technical screening criteria for the EU green taxonomy, on sustainable finance policy as well as on the monitoring and reporting of capital flows towards sustainable investments in Europe. The platform will reach out to a wide range of stakeholders through both public consultations and targeted outreach.[1]
Speaking about the Platform, Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President for an Economy that Works for the People, said: “This Sustainable Finance Platform will provide valuable ideas and input in our work to drive green finance forward and to develop the taxonomy, which will play a crucial role in channeling investment into green economic activities. It has been heartening to see such tremendous interest from such a wide range of experts and stakeholders to join the Platform. We have struck a very careful balance in selecting people from a wide range of sectors including civil society, industry and academia, and with different skills. I look forward to working closely with the Platform over the next months.”[2]
Agent Green and Dr. Cojoianu as its representative, have been selected from over 500 applications, Agent Green being thus the only organization on the Platform from Romania. In total, the Commission selected 50 members and 9 special observers based on their environmental, sustainable finance or social/human rights expertise, along with other organizations and companies such as Airbus, Allianz Group or E.ON SE.[3]
Regarding this high-profile appointment, Mr. Gabriel Paun, President of Agent Green declared:

About Dr. Theodor Cojoianu
Dr. Theodor Cojoianu is an Assistant Professor in Finance at Queen’s University Belfast and an Academic-in-Residence with Agent Green. Theodor’s work at the intersection between sustainability, datascience and finance is focused on applying innovative research methods to the study of sustainable development issues. Theodor also serves as: an Academic-in-Residence in Sustainable Nation Ireland, on the advisory board of the EU Energy Efficiency Mortgages Initiative, as a member of Green Finance Ireland, and is involved as an Executive Committee Member on the Global Network on Financial Geography (Fingeo).
Theodor received his D.Phil. in Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford and his MSc. in Carbon Finance (Distinction) and MEng. in Electrical Engineering and Management from the University of Edinburgh.
